Banned in India but winning awards internationally: Lipstick under my burkha

Konkona Sen Sharma starer 'Lipstick under My Burkha' which was apparently too crass to get a certificate from the censor board has bagged the Audience Award at the Glasgow Film Festival 2017. While the producers continue to struggle for its release in India, the film was honored by being the only prize given out at the festival. The director Alankrita Shrivastava said that this award gives her hope and strength to continue telling such stories and be undeterred by those who want to quiet us.
Moviemakers Shyam Benegal and Sudhir Mishra and Neeraj Ghaywan have criticized the censor board's decision to refuse a permit to Prakash Jha's production 'Lipstick Under My Burkha'.While, Benegal said, 'the censor board should approve the movie and to stop any movie from being released is not legitimate; Mishra emphasized that the board should not hold back talented and young directors from exhibiting their work
